چکیده

Pseudocapsular exfoliation occurs in most races and countries but appears to be particularly common in Norway and in the Eastern European and Mediterranean countries. It is rare in American Negroes, only two cases having been reported (Gradle and Sugar, 1947), and in Negroes in the West Indies (Connell, I970), and has not been reported in Negroes elsewhere outside South Africa (Bartholomew, I970; Luntz, I970). The geographical distribution of exfoliation was reviewed by Aasved (i969), who concluded that many of the differences in occurrence and prevalence are due to the nature of the samples and methods used. He found prevalence rates, in three groups of subjects over 60years old, of 6 3 per cent. in Norway, 4 0 per cent. in Germany, and 4.7 per cent. in England, using similar samples and identical methods ofexamination. The apparent rarity of exfoliation in Negroes throughout the world, apart from the South African Bantu, promoted these efforts to obtain more information about the occurrence and prevalence of exfoliation in the various Bantu tribes, who have different racial and genetic backgrounds, live under widely different climatic conditions, and are at different stages in development from a primitive rural to an urban way of life.

Cultural phylogeography of the Bantu Languages of sub-Saharan Africa.

There is disagreement about the routes taken by populations speaking Bantu languages as they expanded to cover much of sub-Saharan Africa. Here, we build phylogenetic trees of Bantu languages and map them onto geographical space in order to assess the likely pathway of expansion and test between dispersal scenarios. The results clearly support a scenario in which groups first moved south throug...

Genome-Wide SNP Analysis of Southern African Populations Provides New Insights into the Dispersal of Bantu-Speaking Groups

The expansion of Bantu-speaking agropastoralist populations had a great impact on the genetic, linguistic, and cultural variation of sub-Saharan Africa. It is generally accepted that Bantu languages originated in an area around the present border between Cameroon and Nigeria approximately 5,000 years ago, from where they spread South and East becoming the largest African linguistic branch. The ...

Unraveling the Population History of Indian Siddis

The Siddis are a unique Indian tribe of African, South Asian, and European ancestry. While previous investigations have traced their ancestral origins to the Bantu populations from subSaharan Africa, the geographic localization of their ancestry has remained elusive. Here, we performed biogeographical analysis to delineate the ancestral origin of the Siddis employing an admixture based algorith...
